The Archon nails a thick, saturated crunch reminiscent of a boosted plexi, with a shimmering clean channel that stands on its own. A robust EQ section including mid frequency shift tailors gain texture precisely. Global presence and reverb toggles expand the sonic palette further.

This amp was designed with elite session pros and touring acts in mind. After over 50 prototype iterations, artists consistently praised the Archon’s tone, touch sensitivity, and tuning stability under pressure. Available in 100 to 25 watt heads alongside combo counterparts, the Archon brings boutique soul to the modern metal amp arena.

The DG and HXDA – Vintage Tone Perfected

In contrast to the contemporary Archon and 2-Channel, the DG and HXDA embrace vintage British DNA. Both replicate the smooth compression and organic bloom of a cranked plexi, with expanded feature sets. The critical difference lies in harmonic tonal flavor and gain structure.

DG arose from PRS artist David Grissom’s amp holy grail quest. David sought old-school magic and responsiveness augmented by contemporary convenience. After significant collaboration alongside Doug Sewell, DG was born. Channel one oozes warmth and character at any volume. Crunchy lead tones retain definition and react dynamically to pick attack.

Global presence and resonance switches expand the sweet spot while a variable boost kicks the front end for explosive soloing. Overall this amp fuses brown sound glory with reliability and consistency.

For a more authentic vintage experience, check out the HXDA. Short for “Hiwatt DNA,” this amp nails the legendary British builder’s hallmarks – chiming brilliance, woody note bloom, and singing mids. This amp interacts almost like an instrument itself – guitar dynamics alter the tone and response. Edge of breakup tones have almost a vocal inflection.

While circuit topology remains old-school, some modern touches enhance functionality. Multi-voiced gain and presence mini-toggles allow exacting tone sculpting not traditionally available. Despite its retro roots, the HXDA delivers on PRS’s promise of versatility and responsiveness to meet all player needs.
